Crossing the Void, 90x70cm, painting by Paolo Amoretti

Social Evolution in Art

Modern and contemporary art are expressions that reflect the evolution of the society we live in. While the difference between the two may seem subtle, it is important to understand that modern art refers to artworks created in recent but already historicized eras, while contemporary art includes even more recent works, the result of artistic movements that are not yet historicized or not yet concluded.

In modern society, image plays an increasingly important role. Reality is instantaneous and words often fail to convey the essence of what we want to communicate. This is why objective art has the advantage of catapulting the viewer into the moment, with its ability to speak directly to the emotional center, the fastest of all the lower centers.

In this context, the Futurists’ motto “March, don’t rot” takes on an even more relevant meaning. Today, our priority is the present and we must learn to live it to the fullest. The figure of the intellectual and the poet plays a fundamental role in society, as a tool to optimistically extol the industrial age, the beauty of technique and technology, of movement, of the machine and of running.

Futurism, in fact, does not limit itself to innovating in the literary or figurative fields, but proposes a new lifestyle, based on optimism and the valorization of the present. This artistic movement is organized around various theoretical manifestos that define its characteristics in every field, from poetry to painting, from sculpture to music.

In conclusion, modern and contemporary art represent our reality and our ever-changing society. The figure of the intellectual and the poet play a fundamental role in valorizing the present and in the creation of a new lifestyle, based on optimism and the valorization of technology and technique. Art, therefore, not only offers us a way to express ourselves, but also a source of inspiration for building our future. Thanks to modern and contemporary art, we can appreciate the evolution of our world and gain a greater awareness of our place in it.

Crossing the void

In this painting three evanescent panels emerge from the depths of the monochrome. At the center of each panel, a human figure walks, striding with an uncertain step toward an unknown destination. It is not known where these figures are going, nor what their final fate is. They are shrouded in an aura of mystery, as if time had stopped waiting for their next move.

Only one of the panels offers a dark background, creating a sharp contrast with the shades of gray and ochre that permeate the entire composition. As if the figure at the center of this panel were walking in a nocturnal limbo, looking for a light that could illuminate his path.

The set of three panels seems to capture a moment of transition, as if the figures were crossing a threshold between the past and the future. They are alone, but not desperate. They walk with confidence, even if their fate remains uncertain.

This painting is an invitation to reflect on the nature of movement and the transience of life itself. The figures walking in the center of these boxes represent our individual journey, made up of adventures and challenges that bring us ever closer to our goal.
